Airport to introduce new trolley service
Published: 09 December 2010
New baggage trolleys will be introduced at Cardiff Airport on December 16th 2010. Newport based company Airport Cart Service (ACS) Limited will supply and operate the trolley service.
The new high quality, easy to use trolleys are required to replace the much older equipment and will improve the current service for those travelling through the airport.
Passengers will be able to use the new trolleys for a non returnable fee of £2. Cardiff Airport will not be receiving any income from this fee.
Margaret James, Quality and Contracts Manager at Cardiff Airport commented, "Our aim is to improve the trolley service for those travelling through the airport, and to do this the existing trolleys need to be replaced. We're working with specialist company ACS Limited to offer our customers the highest quality product and service available, and to improve the experience for passengers travelling in and out of Wales through its national airport.
"Over recent years there has been an increase in the use of wheeled suitcases which has lead to a reduction in demand for trolleys, especially in a small and convenient airport such as Cardiff. Although there is less demand it is important to provide quality trolleys to those who require them."
The new scheme brings Cardiff Airport in line with a number of other international and UK airports including Bristol and Birmingham Airports, who have also introduced a charge for trolleys in order to provide a better quality trolley service for passengers. A commercialised service also ensures trolleys stocks are maintained and equipment standards are high.
Mrs James continued, "There is a cost associated with the improved service which must be recovered by ACS Limited."
Passengers who require special assistance during their time at the airport are able to pre-book a separate free service with their tour operator or airline, or directly with Cardiff Airport by contacting 01446 729329 or e-mailing PRMDesk@cwl.aero.
