Cardiff to Anglesey passenger numbers soar again in August

Published: 19 September 2011

The strong growth in passenger numbers on Manx2.com’s Cardiff to Anglesey route has continued, with a 20% increase in August compared to the same period last year.

It follows a near 30% increase in the previous three months, May to July.  Manx2.com and partner carrier FLM Aviation has been operating the twice daily flights since May 2010.   In addition to the growth on the intra-Wales route, there were no delays on the route during the month with every flight early or on time.

General Manager of Manx2.com, David Buck, said: ‘The combination of new low leisure fares and our reputation for outstanding reliability and timekeeping has helped grow passenger numbers in a difficult market.  During the summer we promoted the route extensively, with exhibitions at the Anglesey Show, the Three Counties Show in Gloucester and the Royal Welsh Show as well as a successful local media campaign.

‘With winter drawing in our service really comes into its own as we can offer easy day returns in both directions, saving business people and visitors a three or four hour drive in often dark and difficult winter road conditions.  With forward bookings also showing an increase we hope to see this growth trend continue for the final quarter of the year.’

Dewi Williams, Head of Highways and Waste Management at Isle of Anglesey County Council from Anglesey Council, said: ‘It’s pleasing to see continued growth on this route as people become more aware of both the convenience and reliability of the service.  Clearly, the flights will be of great advantage during the winter months when travel conditions are more challenging.’
