Airport sponsors graffiti project

Published: 13 September 2010

Cardiff Airport has set up a partnership with Cardiff-based group Peaceful Progress to sponsor a local scheme entitled "The Boiler House Graffiti Project".

The airport donated funds to support the project, which is the first graffiti and street art gallery and exclusive graffiti shop in Wales, and which offers support for local artists by providing opportunities to exhibit and sell their work.

Peaceful Progress formed in 2000 and is a collective concept founded by graffiti artist Bryce Davies, promoting various art forms in an honest and positive way. The group have two outdoor graffiti wall spaces measuring over 100ft long available to paint at any time, and hold regular graffiti workshops and classes at the Boiler House in Llandaff North, Cardiff, attracting a variety of groups from Neath and Port Talbot Probation Service to the Cardiff University Art Society.

Cassie Houghton, Cardiff Airport's marketing and PR manager commented: "The airport's Touchdown Committee voted in favour of supporting this project as it fits our criteria of supporting local arts and culture projects by providing a legitimate space for graffiti which enables you to truly appreciate this art form."

Jodie Driscoll of Peaceful Progress added: "Cardiff Airport's support for the Boiler House Graffiti Project has enabled us to get the project off the ground and turn an idea into a reality. It has helped us to transform a derelict warehouse into a working Street Art Gallery suitable for the public to visit.

"The gallery provides a legitimate platform for Graffiti Artist from all over Wales to express themselves and showcase their work to a wider audience. We have had positive responses from artists, local residents, and a host of community groups who have visited the space so far."

"We look forward to continuing to positively promote the Graffiti and Street Art scene in South Wales, and greatly appreciate the support from Cardiff Airport."
