More cruise options for Cardiff customers

Published: 29 July 2010

Welsh passengers are now able to connect with prestigious Hurtigruten cruises daily from Cardiff Airport and view some of the world’s most amazing sights.

Hurtigruten operates cruises along Norway's stunning coastline, and flights from Cardiff Airport via Amsterdam Schiphol with KLM can be included as part of their package.

Departing from the cultural centre of Bergen travellers can enjoy the idyllic scenery of the Arctic coastline and Norwegian fjords on voyages sailing to Kirkenes, high above the Arctic Circle. Voyage durations range from six to 14 days and a wide selection of excursions can be added. Prices including return flights from Cardiff start from £1349 for a 12 day Classic Round Voyage on a full board basis (based on two people sharing a twin cabin and travelling in January or February 2011). Must be booked by 30 September 2010.

Most cruises start from Bergen and flights are available from Cardiff via Amsterdam to the Norwegian city three times a day, ensuring passengers arrive in plenty of time to board one of the daily cruise departures.

Spencer Birns, Cardiff Airport's head of air service development commented: "Cruising is a large market in South Wales and travellers don't always realise that you can fly on scheduled flights to connect with sailings.

We're pleased Hurtigruten are selling Cardiff flights as part of their cruise package, as this opens up another, beautiful area for Welsh travellers to explore from their local airport".

Lucy Hone, Hurtigruten's regional sales manager added: ".We have started to see a great interest in our voyages for the Northern lights in the winter time and The Midnight Sun in summer time from the Cardiff area. Our ships provide customers with a unique experience, as we have daily departures from Bergen sailing to right up to Kirkenes on the Russian Border and visiting remote ports which are not accessible by larger cruiseships.  Guests can experience the natural, unspoilt beauty of true Norway every day, as they never lose sight of the breathtaking scenery.  Cardiff is a potential growth area for Hurtigruten and we are working closely with Travel agents in the area, to support them in growing their Hurtigruten business."
