Cornwall only half an hour from Cardiff with Air Southwest

Published: 12 November 2010

Cornwall is now only half an hour from Cardiff thanks to new flights from regional airline Air Southwest.

Air Southwest is launching a daily service from Cardiff to Newquay on January 4 next year. Seats are already on sale at www.airsouthwest.com.

Newquay boasts some of the best surfing beaches in the UK and Cornwall recently scored a double victory in the British Travel Awards after being named best UK holiday county with the popular resort of St Ives crowned best seaside town.

Mike Coombes, commercial director at Air Southwest, said: "Cornwall is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year with first-class hotels, beautiful beaches, wonderful walks and fine food.

"Newquay itself is a mecca for surfing and a great resort for the whole family. And Newquay Airport is just a few minutes from Watergate Bay, home to the Jamie Oliver inspired Fifteen Cornwall restaurant and a range of adrenalin sports.

"Our flights are ideal for a short break, shaving more than three hours off the equivalent journey by road."

Patrick Duffy, managing director at Cardiff Airport, added: "We're pleased to have Air Southwest at Cardiff and with them a new service to Newquay. The service offers a real alternative to the long journeys by rail and road which is good news for both leisure and business passengers in South Wales and Cornwall."

As well as having some of the UK's most stunning scenery, Cornwall is home to world-class attractions such as the Eden Project and Tate St Ives and boasts an excellent range of places to eat, drink, relax and have fun.

Air Southwest flights from Cardiff to Newquay start on January 4 next year from £39 including taxes, charges and baggage, available from www.airsouthwest.com. Air Southwest's car hire partner Avis has vehicles available to pick up at Newquay Airport.
