Airport staff ease the pressure on Santa’s workshop

Published: 19 December 2011

Cardiff Airport and partner company employees have been giving Santa and his elves a helping hand this year by collecting 32 presents for vulnerable children in South Wales.

This is the eighth year that staff at the company have taken part in Business in the Community’s Christmas campaign.  The campaign has been run by the charity for more than a decade and encourages businesses and their employees to donate presents to brighten up Christmas for underprivileged children around Wales.

Presents purchased by Cardiff Airport and partner company employees have been donated to the “Vale of Glamorgan Short Breaks” project based in Barry, a few miles away from the airport.

Marion Williams from Cardiff Airport said, “The staff love getting involved in the campaign every year and it’s very rewarding to know we’ve put smiles on the faces of so many local children.”

Presents from this year’s campaign support the charity Action for Children, which supports and speaks out for the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK, as well as to other Welsh children’s charities.

Simon Harris, Director, Business in the Community in Wales added, “Yet again, we have had a tremendous response from staff at the airport.  This campaign is a simple and effective way that businesses can support the local communities where they work and make a difference to the children who need the most help this Christmas. These gifts will, I am sure, go a long way to brightening up Christmas Day for these special children”.

Barbara Street, Action for Children’s Operational Director of Children’s Services, said: “For most of us Christmas is a special time, but sadly there are plenty of children who will receive few, if any presents this year.

“Just one gift can make a huge difference to the families who are most in need of support and will help bring some magic to a child’s Christmas.”

“We’re extremely grateful to Business in the Community and Cardiff Airport for supporting us with this campaign, which is a shining example of how businesses can come together to make a real difference to those who need it.”

Approximately 50 companies from across Wales have taken part in this year’s campaign and together donated presents for more than 2,500 underprivileged children.
