Tasty welcome for Irish fans

Cardiff Airport was bustling with Irish rugby fans tucking into tasty Welsh cakes this morning (Friday), as Irish flights began touching down for today’s Six Nations showdown.
A team from Brace’s Bakery, which has been baking just outside Blackwood for 109 years, was on hand yesterday morning to offer hungry passengers traditional Welsh treats and to wish them well when they go head to head with Wales today.
Throughout the day, regular arrivals from Belfast and Dublin were greeted with a warm welsh welcome and Welsh cakes went down very well with our Celtic cousins.
Irish fan Vincent Muldoon from Donegal said: “These cakes are beautiful. Welcoming flights with a little something is a really nice touch.”
Vincent and wife Denise are in Cardiff to take in the Wales v Ireland match as well as watching their daughter Larissa play for the Irish Ladies’ side on Sunday.
Many Welsh products are available at Cardiff Airport to ensure an all-out Welsh welcome to visitors arriving or travelling through the airport.
Cassie Houghton, Marketing and PR Manager for Cardiff Airport said: “We’re pleased to be working with Brace’s to offer arriving Irish fans a true taste of Wales by giving out Welsh cakes in the arrivals hall.
“Offering our passengers quality Welsh produce coincides with the Cardiff Airport brand which focuses on our ‘Welshness’ and creating a sense of place for passengers who arrive into Wales through its national airport.”
Scott Richardson, Sales and Marketing Director at Brace’s said: “At Brace’s Bakery, we are very keen to promote all that is good about Wales and thought Welsh cakes would offer Irish visitors a great first memory of our capital city. We’re hoping for a great game at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow.”
